Hereditary Acne

Teenagers are known for developing acne, and they have only now decided that it may be the parents’ fault due to heredity.  We all knew before that bad acne tends to run in families, more serious disorders such as rosacea and acne conglobata tend to be genetic or otherwise.  But now they are actually coming out saying that if your parents had bad acne, you are more likely to have bad acne.

They conducted a study in Iran that showed that 14% of students had moderate to severe acne, and out of those who had family members with this problem, about 20% had the same problem.  So in some ways, it almost seems like it might not be as family related as we would assume considering those numbers.  Likewise, apparently there were 10% of teens who had moderate to severe acne without actually having that family history at all.  Maybe they were adopted?

Anyway, apparently if your mother had this kind of acne, you are three times more likely to have severe acne than if your father was the one to have it.  So that certainly makes things interesting to say the least.
